Abstract

Purpose : A descriptive study was conducted to investigate nursing officers¡¯ nursing professional values, job satisfaction, and nursing performance.

Methods : The data were collected from July 30 to August 10, 2007 using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe¡¯s test and Pearson¡¯s correlation coeffient in SPSS 12.0 window program.

Results : The mean score of nursing professional values was 3.37(¡¾.44). ¡¯Professionalism of nursing¡¯ ranked the highest score with 3.56(¡¾.52) and ¡¯social awareness¡¯ was the lowest score with 3.08(¡¾.56). The mean score of job satisfaction and nursing performance were 3.16(¡¾.35) and 3.74(¡¾.40) respectively. Nursing professional values were significantly different according to age, marital status, gender, education level, position, rank, service year, and type of service. The score of nursing professional values had a significant correlation with the score of job satisfaction (r=.564, p<.001) and the one of nursing performance(r=.463, p<.001).

Conclusion : The results of this study suggest a continuous study to find the related factors which affect nursing professional values. An educational program to promote nursing officers¡¯ professional values should be developed.
